Role DescriptionAs the Senior Structural Engineer, you will lead and support the planning, design, and delivery of hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resources projects. Working within multi-disciplinary teams, you will provide technical expertise in structural engineering while building and maintaining strong client relationships. This position offers the opportunity to serve as a project manager, technical lead, or both, depending on project needs and your areas of expertise.
Responsibilities- Managing and delivering structural engineering projects associated with hydroelectric facilities, fisheries infrastructure, and water resource developments.
- Performing analysis and design of concrete and steel structures in and around water environments.
- Serving as a technical lead and/or project manager, overseeing project scope, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and client communications.
- Coordinating with hydrology, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, and environmental professionals to develop integrated engineering solutions.
- Preparing and reviewing technical designs, calculations, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
- Providing field support, including site investigations, condition assessments, construction oversight, and coordination with contractors and clients.
- Mentoring junior engineers, designers, and technical staff while fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
- Building and maintaining long‑term client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives, proposal preparation, and pursuit activities.
- Supporting projects throughout their full lifecycle, from planning and design through construction and commissioning.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS, BSc, or BEng) in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
- Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering standards, codes, and industry best practices.
- Experience designing concrete and steel structures, particularly for infrastructure projects in water‑related environments.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as MathCAD, RISA‑3D, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and Revit.
- Experience working directly with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams during planning, design, and construction phases.
- Excellent problem‑solving, project management, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with hydroelectric generation facilities, dams, spillways, fish passage facilities, or other water resource infrastructure projects.
- Specialty expertise in structural engineering disciplines such as seismic design, finite element modeling, or advanced structural analysis.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes in Canada and/or the United States.
- Demonstrated passion for mentoring junior staff and supporting professional development.
- Must possess permanent authorization to work in Canada and be able to acquire authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be willing to travel within Canada and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to travel to the United States for business purposes.
- Preference will be given to candidates located in Nova Scotia or Ontario; however, candidates from other provinces will be considered.
The expected base salary for this senior‑level role is $125,000 - $172,000 CAD.
